Bvlgari unveils the eighth wonder of the Octo collection: the Octo Finissimo Ultra – Bijouterie Ferret.

Bvlgari unveils the eighth wonder of the Octo collection: the Octo Finissimo Ultra – Bijouterie Ferret.

The thinnest watch in the world

The Octo Finissimo Ultra has a thickness of 1.80 millimeters. This timepiece combines savoir-faire, virtuosity and technology to perfection. The main material used in its manufacture is sandblasted gray titanium. The octagonal case measures 40 mm in diameter. The tungsten carbide baseplate, which supports the movement's components, has been integrated directly into the case back. It supports the watch's BVL 180 caliber, made up of 170 components. The Octo Finissimo Ultra has a 50-hour power reserve and is manually wound. The hands are in black PVD, while the ratchet wheel, the winding mechanism and the time-setting gear train are in stainless steel.

Enter the metaverse with a Bvlgari watch

On each of the ten models, this ratchet wheel is engraved with a unique QR code. Scanning it reveals the technological feat built into this mechanical object, which watchmakers have long mastered. This innovation gives the lucky buyers digital access to their certificate of authenticity and the ability to create a link with an NFT (non-fungible token). But the innovators did not stop there, since this code also allows owners of the Octo Finissimo Ultra to access a whole other universe: the metaverse.

In this digital world, they can discover the watch's movement in three dimensions: a dream for watch enthusiasts.

Octo Finissimo Ultra: eight patents filed by the watchmakers

The flattest timepiece in the world is available in only ten pieces. To create the design of this limited edition, the makers drew inspiration from the octagonal geometric patterns found in the architecture of the arches of the Basilica of Maxentius in Rome. The house, proud of its Italian roots, makes a direct reference to them here. This was already the case for all the previous watches in the Octo collection: the Octo Originale, the Octo Roma, the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, and so on. This collection has received more than 60 international awards for its cutting-edge technical achievement.

The savoir-faire of Swiss watchmakers, combined with the unique elegance of the Italian brand, enabled the watchmaking house to file no fewer than eight patents during the three years needed to develop this iconic watch. Bvlgari's teams patented the crystal mounting, the oscillator module (which divides time into equal units), the barrel structure (the cylindrical box that drives the watch's movement), the differential display (which averages two rates), the modular structure (a part linked to the movement), the watch's bracelet, the software and the baseplate integrated into the case back.
