The New BLACK BAY 58 from Tudor – Burgundy Dial

TUDOR BLACK BAY 58 2025

The Black Bay 58, a highly popular model in the TUDOR collection, is now certified as a Master Chronometer. Offered with a burgundy dial and bezel configuration, the new Black Bay 58 is also available for the first time on a five-link bracelet with the “T-fit” clasp.

The Black Bay 58 is named after the year of the launch of TUDOR’s first 200-meter water-resistant diving watch, reference 7924, also nicknamed the “Big Crown.” Among other aesthetic references to this historic model, the Black Bay 58 features a 39 mm diameter case, maintaining the characteristic proportions that appeared in the late 1950s. This new version of the Black Bay 58 continues to honor the brand’s historical aesthetics while incorporating elements from a 1990s TUDOR prototype, the 79190 diving watch. That prototype featured a burgundy dial with a satin finish and a matching bezel. Although it was never produced at the time, its spirit lives on in this all-new Black Bay 58.

In addition to its fresh aesthetic, the new Black Bay 58 is certified as a Master Chronometer, one of the most demanding standards in watchmaking for chronometry and resistance to magnetic fields. As part of this certification, each watch is fully assembled and tested by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). Furthermore, the new Black Bay 58 is offered with three bracelet options: a five-link steel bracelet, a three-link steel “riveted” bracelet, or a rubber strap, all equipped with the TUDOR “T-fit” quick-adjust system, providing exceptional comfort on the wrist.

KEY FEATURES

  1. Original TUDOR diving watch proportions: 39 mm steel case with a burgundy bezel, satin finish
  2. Slightly domed satin-sunburst burgundy dial with silver accents
  3. “Snowflake” hands, a TUDOR diving watch signature introduced in 1969, filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova® grade A luminescent material
  4. Manufacture Caliber MT5400-U, with silicon balance spring and 65-hour power reserve
  5. Master Chronometer certification by METAS
  6. Three bracelet options: five-link steel, three-link “riveted” steel, or rubber, all with TUDOR “T-fit” quick-adjust clasp
  7. Transferable five-year warranty, no registration or interim checks required

TUDOR QUALITY

With the launch of this new Black Bay 58, TUDOR once again achieves Master Chronometer certification for one of its models. This underscores the brand’s commitment to continually improving product quality and represents another step toward a future where the entire collection will be METAS-certified. This certification, issued by an independent Swiss government body, requires numerous modifications to TUDOR’s base Manufacture Caliber, confirming the exceptional quality of TUDOR watches.

COMPLETE INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION & HIGH STANDARD

METAS Master Chronometer certification is comprehensive, covering key functional attributes of a watch such as accuracy, magnetic resistance, water resistance, and power reserve. The standard is extremely high, starting with precision: a watch must maintain daily variation within 0/+5 seconds (5 seconds more stringent than COSC, –4/+6, for the movement alone, and 1 second stricter than TUDOR’s internal tolerance of –2/+4 on Manufacture calibers). It also guarantees performance under a 15,000-gauss magnetic field and validates the manufacturer’s stated water resistance and power reserve. Two prerequisites must be met: Swiss-made production and COSC certification of the movement.

MASTER CHRONOMETER CRITERIA & TESTS BY METAS

The Black Bay 58’s functional attributes independently verified by METAS include:

- Swiss Made

- COSC certification

- Accuracy tested at two temperatures, in six positions, and at two winding levels (100% and 33%)

- Functionality under 15,000-gauss magnetic fields

- Water resistance to 200 meters

- 65-hour power reserve

ICONIC LOOK

The Black Bay line is one of TUDOR’s most recognized and distinctive collections. The Black Bay 58 features a 39 mm case with a slim profile. Its burgundy unidirectional rotating bezel is easy to handle, with delicately curved numerals aligned to the bezel’s arc. Additional aesthetic details include the lollipop-shaped seconds hand, reminiscent of TUDOR’s earliest diving watches, and the delicately brushed satin burgundy dial, offering subtle light reflections. Ergonomics have been updated: the redesigned crown echoes the curves of historic technical TUDOR crowns and sits flush against the case, hiding its tube.

THREE-BRACELET OPTIONS WITH “T-FIT” CLASP

The Black Bay 58’s three-link “riveted” bracelet pays homage to TUDOR riveted bracelets from the 1950s and 1960s, featuring exposed rivet heads on the bracelet edge and slightly graduated links. Both this bracelet and the five-link steel bracelet come with TUDOR’s T-fit quick-adjust clasp, offering five adjustment positions over 8 mm without tools. A ceramic ball system ensures secure closure.

A custom-cut black rubber strap is also available, featuring the signature “Snowflake” interior pattern for improved grip.

THE ESSENCE OF BLACK BAY

The Black Bay line draws inspiration from TUDOR diving watches of the 1950s. It incorporates angular “Snowflake” hands, first introduced in 1969, and retains the original crown-less shoulder case design. Rather than a direct reissue, the line blends 70+ years of TUDOR diving watch codes with contemporary watchmaking, resulting in a neo-vintage feel combined with modern performance and finishing standards.

TUDOR MANUFACTURE

Each TUDOR watch is fully assembled and tested at the brand’s new Manufacture in Le Locle, Switzerland. Completed in 2021, the facility spans four floors with over 5,500 m² of space, integrating traditional craftsmanship with automated certification and production management systems. TUDOR also owns the Kenissi Manufacture, established in 2016 for movement production, enabling full vertical integration and quality control of critical components.

TUDOR WARRANTY

Founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926, TUDOR guarantees robustness, durability, reliability, and precision. All watches come with a five-year transferable warranty, no registration or interim inspections required. Maintenance is recommended approximately every ten years depending on use.

BORN TO DARE

TUDOR’s “Born To Dare” campaign, launched in 2017, embodies the brand’s history and philosophy: watches for those who explore land, air, water, and ice with a TUDOR on the wrist. It reflects Hans Wilsdorf’s vision of watches able to endure extreme conditions and audacious lifestyles. The brand’s ambassadors worldwide exemplify this bold spirit.
